2012–2018
Charlotte and Ohio came in together as the 2012 expansion class, and the Hounds got their name from a fan vote — "Hounds" beat "Legion" by 21 votes. Year two produced the biggest upset in league history: a 7–7 fourth seed knocked off 14–0 Denver in the semifinal, 17–14, then lost the Steinfeld Cup to Chesapeake by a goal, 10–9. They never got back to a final, finishing 40–58 across seven seasons, with Jim Stagnitta named Coach of the Year in 2016. Matt Rambo (3rd overall, 2017) and Joey Sankey (2015 Rookie of the Year) are the names worth knowing. The Hounds were shut down in April 2019: owner Jim Davis owned four teams and, under a new one-owner-one-vote structure, had to keep just one — he kept the Dallas Rattlers.
